Preservatives in Dried Fruits
Whilst we endeavour to ensure that the overwhelming majority of food products that we stock are organic, unfortunately there are instances when this is not possible. When this happens, we apply the same rigorous criteria before we decide to stock tham, as we would to organic options.
Unfortunately, some non-organic dried fruit contain Sulphur Dioxide (SO2), which is also known as E220. This is because of its antimicrobial properties and to extend shelf life.
Whilst the amount of this preservative that is used is very small, Sulphur Dioxide may trigger asthma attacks. Asthma sufferers are advised to limit their exposure to SO2/E220.
