Smallchanges supporting local growers

Posted by Peadar Rice at

This month sees the start a very exciting and new initiative in our Gorey shop.  Having met with independent growers we are now selling locally grown produce.  The only proviso is that no chemicals are used during growth.

Each Thursday, the growers bring their goods to the shop.  We are offer free space in the shop for the growers to sell their locally grown produce.   All proceeds go directly back to the grower.

Tim Nickerson from Ballygarrett is our first grower.  Once a week Tim delivers his bags of deliscious Mixed Salad Bags.  They contain rocket, mizunz, red mustard, coriander, baby beet leaves, borage flowers, rocket flowers, red frills and oak leaf lettuce.  Each bag weighs approx.150g and costs €2.00. The selection of produce will increase as the summer progresses.

On the 14th May 2013 together with Tim and other local growers we will hold an open meeting to see if we can start a Grow Your Own group in Gorey.  The long term plan to start a Gorey Community Garden and from this to start local delivers of produce grown in Gorey.
